Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Long Term Support Release Available

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS - code name "Resolute Raccoon" - with Long Term Support is available!

It includes updated versions of most of the Ubuntu core set of packages, including a current 7.0 kernel. For users currently on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, the update comprises the changes that happened in all the interim releases between Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 26.04 LTS, as well as the most recent changes since Ubuntu 25.10.

The long-term support means five years of free security and maintenance updates. For Ubuntu 26.04 LTS this means coverage until May 2031.

Users currently on 24.04 LTS can upgrade directly to 26.04 LTS without any intermediate steps (see: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS summary - Ubuntu release notes). A standard update path for the upgrade from 24.04 LTS  will be supported from version 26.01.1 LTS onwards.

For users currently running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS there is no immediate rush for upgrade. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is still supported until 31 May 2029. We at AIRIX.NET think a good moment for an upgrade and productive use will be with version 26.01.1 LTS. Therefore we plan the move to 26.04 LTS in summer or early autumn 2026.
