The Let's Encrypt initiative is a popular, free, automated, and open certificate authority that provides TLS certificates free of charge. It announced recently announcements to end the support for expiration notification emails by 4th June 2025.
Ending Support for Expiration Notification Emails
From June 4th 2025 on, Let's Encrypt will stop to send notification Emails informing subscribers about upcoming expiration of their certificates. The following reasons were given for their decision:
Providing expiration notifications costs Let’s Encrypt tens of thousands of dollars per year
Providing expiration notifications adds complexity to the Let's Encrypt infrastructure
Over the past 10 years more and more of our subscribers have been able to put reliable automation into place for certificate renewal
Providing expiration notification emails means that Let's Encrypt has to retain millions of email addresses and with the decision to stop this service, these can be removed.
